Community Notice With the start of school, we have moved to more school sponsored activities for our athletic programs. One of our guidelines is to have 50 or less participants (student-athletes and coaches) in an area at one time.
We are governed by the VHSL and we are required to abide by the standards set for eligibility. These include but are not limited to the following:
BONA FIDE STUDENT RULE: Each athlete must be a Bona Fide student in good standing at South Lakes HS.
AGE RULE: A student shall not have reached the age of 19 on or before the
first day of August of the school year in which he/she wishes to compete.
ENROLLMENT RULE-The student shall have been regularly enrolled in the
school which he/she represents not later than the fi fteenth school day of the semester.
SCHOLARSHIP RULE- All students must pass 5 classes during the preceding semester and be currently enrolled in not fewer than 5 subjects in order to be eligible to participate. Students may not repeat courses for eligibility purposes for which credit has already been awarded.
SEMESTER RULE-The student shall not have been enrolled in the last four
years of high school for a period of more than eight consecutive semesters, beginning with
the semester in which he/she was enrolled for the fi rst time in the ninth grade. The eight
consecutive semesters shall be counted continuously from that point, regardless of whether
or not he/she remains continuously enrolled in school.
TRANSFER RULE-The student shall not have enrolled in one high school and
subsequently transferred to and enrolled in another high school without a corresponding
change in the residence of his/her parents, parent, or guardian.
All students who participate on our teams must live within the South Lakes boundary with a parent or guardian. If a student-athlete is found to live outside of our boundary the team will be required to forfeit any game they have participated in.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding eligibility, please contact the activities office immediately or visit the VHSL website.
